(ARC Review) That Man Next Door by Nadia Lee (Sweet Darlings Inc. Book 1)

ARC

I’m a twenty-two year-old virgin who’s had five one-night stands. How’s that possible? Easy. I’ve never gone all the way. I just chicken out and bail. Thank God, I’ve always selected men I’ll never run across again…

…until that sexy-as-sin Matt from last weekend moves in next door…

…then shows up as a new in-house counsel at Sweet Darlings Inc. where I work.

Oh…crap.

But it was dark in the hotel room. If I put on a boring office outfit and Clark Kent glasses, he won’t recognize me…

Right?

This is the first book I have read by Author Nadia Lee and it had so much going on, but it definitely worked for this book. We have the lead female Jan who has had 5 one night stands… sort of… because she is still a virgin. Her 5th “one night stand” was fate. They met in New York and even though she could not seal the deal once again – which was on her end, not his. So it’s a shocker when Jan see’s Matt (the 5th stand) moving in next door to her. What comes even more than a shock is when Matt is now working at her families company.

Jan tries to stay away, but Matt has other plans. Along the way we see the insecurity Jan has for relationships because of her family. Growing up with no father, and grandparents that did not step in until her mother died when she was 10, was hard and caused a huge coal in her heart. Thankfully we get answers at the end of what happened with her family because throughout the book we are definitely told by Jan’s eyes that her family doesn’t like her or thinks she fits in.

The connection between Matt and Jan is high up there. No wonder Jan can’t stay away. Yet Matt being a Lawyer has a good head on his shoulders and is respectful with a slight side of Alpha in him. He knows when to take control and when to pull back even when Jan still wants to push forward. These two were definitely meant for each other and it’s great that fate kicked in pretty fast. Matt was the perfect guy for Jan’s first – okay that is not a spoiler this is a steamy romance novel – and is the perfect guy for Jan to settle down with, if only Jan would figure that out already.

I enjoyed the banters between Jan and Matt. As well as between Jan and her friends. We get the perfect set up for the next book in this series with Jan’s cousin David and Jan’s best friend and roommate. I definitely looking forward to that book upon it’s release!

That Man Next Door is a light read with low angst and very low drama. Perfect light hearted read on a cold fall day.
