“Ever notice that sometimes a guy will do something really stupid, like let the love of his life slip through his fingers?
Yeah. I’m that guy. But the moment I run into the woman I once loved madly, I’ve got one goal and one goal only—a second chance. The plan? Go big or go home.
Fine, at first glance, stripping naked at my ex-girlfriend’s place of work might not seem like the brightest way to win her heart again. But trust me on this count—she always liked me best without any clothes on. And you’ve got to play to your strengths when you’re fighting an uphill battle. As a lawyer, I know how to fight, and I’m prepared to fight hard for her. Because sometimes you need a second chance at first love.
He’s the one who got away . . .
The nerve of Tyler Nichols to reappear like that at my job, showing off his rock-hard body that drove me wild far too many nights. That man with his knowing grin and mischievous eyes is nothing but a cocky jerk to saunter back into my life. Except, what if he’s not . . .? I’ve tried like hell to forget him, but maybe I’m cursed to remember the guy I fell madly in love with eight years ago. Lord knows I’m not over him, so what’s the harm in giving him a week to prove he’s changed in the ways that matter?
After all, how do you resist the hot one…”

Tyler Nichols is an Entertainment Lawyer, Delaney owns a Massage and Spa building. Yet the last time that Tyler saw Delaney was when they both were seniors in college and about to start their journey to BOTH be lawyers. She was always good with her hands, and her mouth… in more ways than just debating. Tyler regrets more often than not what happened between him and Delaney. They dated for a year, both in love and very happy in and out of the bedroom. So why did Tyler break it off? Half the time he has no idea anymore, but the reason then was because he couldn’t deal with the stress and struggles of college and a girlfriend. Yes, he loved her but he also loved his career choice and at such a young age he didn’t realize that she was more important and always would be.
So on a beautiful morning in New York City, the two old lovers cross paths. Not realizing that either lived in Manhattan. And even though their encounter was brief it was enough to rush all the old feelings back to both of them. Although they both could already admit to not really forgetting about their old flames anyways. Granted all of that, Delaney still pushes back at Tyler when he wants to reconnect. Tyler is far from lacking the confidence of his go big or go home efforts until he gets what he never should of let go all those years ago.
Along the way they battle trying to fix what happened 8 years ago. All while trying to learn the new things about each other that have changed, mostly for the better. Will Tyler’s bungee jump attitude towards life push calm, peaceful and stress-free Delaney away? Or is that just the type she needs in her life, even if some of her friends think otherwise.
The Hot One was a perfect addition to Lauren Blakely’s books and this specific series. I love being able to read more about other characters like Simon/Abby and Penny/Gabriel. It was also nice to read a little about Clay and his daughter from another series that I have not read yet.

LONG REVIEW with Spoilers. SO SPOILER ALERT!!!
that I have not read yet. I’m going to impatiently wait for The Wild One to come out in July about the main characters in this books best friend Nicole.
Starting off the book with two prologues. We get one for each side – Tyler and Delaney. Both caught eye of each other for the first time in 8 years. Tyler was almost starstruck seeing the one that got away after all these years. He was in Central Park with his “niece” – his cousins kid, juggling for her entertainment. He closed his eyes, and once he opened them there she was. As gorgeous if not more since the last time he saw her. I got goosebumps just imagining that moment. Opening your eyes and almost having that jaw dropping moment of seeing someone you once loved. I’m not sure if any of you have run into an ex before, or woke up one day to a message from them out of no where. The butterflies inside are deep and fluttering like crazy. Especially when that ex is someone you missed or regretted how things ended.
Delaney was running with her gal pals, when she looks over and see’s the one guy that as not got out of her head since they broke up, and trust her when she says she’s tried. Yet the memory of him always comes back, especially when her favorite adult toy is in use. So when she see’s him for the first time since he broke up with her in college, 8 years ago I might add, she is surprised to say the least. He said he couldn’t juggle classes to be a lawyer and her. So imagine the funny irony that when she see’s his hotness again, he is juggling. He says hey, she asks how the juggling is working out and he says great, he kept it up. She looks down and see’s the girl next to him and instantly assumes it’s his daughter. She can see the resemblance. Then is pissed, because that kid looks to be about the same age of when things broke off with them, seemed he could juggle school and another girl. So she continues to run off, even after Tyler tries to run after her. Tyler Nichols is officially out of Delaney’s head and heart. Or so she thinks. Nice lie you’re trying to tell yourself Delaney.
Delaney and her friends head off to breakfast and chat about Tyler. Nicole is against Delaney going back to her ex. As Penny is not, considering her relationship was once an ex as well. So they look Tyler up on Facebook and they find out that that girl, thankfully is not his daughter. And just when Delaney decides she needs to get back out there and start trying to date again, she gets notification of a Facebook message, and it’s of course from him. You better fight hard, Nichols.
You can read more about her bestie Penny in the book called The Only One and her other friend Nicole’s book will be out in July 2017 called The Wild One. You can also read all about Tyler’s cousin Clay in the Seductive series. There’s a prequel First Night before the actually book Night After Night. I have not read this series yet, so if you do let me know how it is. I all honesty just keep forgetting about it. Otherwise I would have probably already read it all by now and probably enjoyed the shit out of it.
Tyler’s cousin Clay knows all about how Tyler feels about Delaney. He also knows that now that Tyler has seen her, he’s going to jump right into action and head first. Which is what he does, by sending her a message. Asking her to get a drink and catch up. Delaney responds back the next morning with basically a hard NOPE. Says she is too busy, but thanks for the offer. Tyler does not take that well and does some sleuthing to get her cell number. Before she answers her heart beat races, she already knows it’s him. They chat as if it hasn’t been 8 years since he broke her heart. He remembered a lot of details about her, so when he asked again to get a drink, she decided to say she will think about it, she’s not ready to say yes. I’m all for girl power and being independent but COME ON GIRL, don’t let him beg like a puppy for too long or else he’s going to run away chasing the first tail he see’s. So Tyler sends her favorite flowers just to remind her to say yes. Then when she still doesn’t, he sends her favorite salad from her favorite place. Still not saying yes, he calls her again. They chat easily, again like always and when he doesn’t get through to her, he gets through to himself. He needs to do a big gesture to win her back. His nice body and amazing dick might trigger some memories. I mean, yeah… I would love to see that as well.
Delaney goes on a date with someone her friend Nicole knows, Trevor. Everything is going well. They get along great and have good conversation. Except during the whole time and especially at the goodbye there is no spark. I mean once again COME ON, he asks if he can kiss her, she says yes but he just kisses her on the forehead. Yeah forehead kisses are adorable, but more when you’re closer to someone, not when you’re trying to win a dates heart sooner or later.
10am rolls around the next morning and Delaney gets a new client. Mr. Pollock AKA Tyler. She comes in as he is stripping naked, and he doesn’t stop while he talks to her. YES PLEASE KEEP GOING!! While he apologizes for being an idiot cocky 22 year old boy. Then when she leaves, he runs after her – in his birthday suit. Her employees see it, and even tell her to give him a chance. Embarrassing, yet sweet. So she pushes him back into the massage room, and when she puts her hands on him she knows her answer will be yes. I mean he has been the main staring lead in her dreams for a very long time. So she gives him a massage, and asks what time they can meet for drinks.
The date is awkward at first, which is not normally their style. Conversation was always easy to them, and Tyler is desperately trying to get back to that. Up until the dreaded hiccups come upon him. No matter what he tries they won’t go away. Delaney tries to distract him, but it’s not working either. So she does the best distraction of all. She kisses him. Which turns into a full on make out session by the bathrooms in a bar. They’re both turned on and wanting to leave, but know that they probably should finish the date and not skip to dessert. Wow, you two are stronger than I could ever be. I would of been having sex in the dirty bathroom for all I care. So they head back to the table. Where the rest of the date goes well and they talk about almost anything and everything. Before leaving, Tyler asks her if he can join in on her run the next morning.
When Tyler see’s Delaney he greets her with a kiss. After checking out her ass and getting a nice stiffy. They run and chat about why she changed her career to massage therapy. During the run they ran into one of her clients. Gigi previously had cancer, and is having a wig party that Delaney will be attending. Before their run ended, Tyler asked if he could go with her, then walks her home. Which ends up being walking her to her inside mailboxes at her apartments and giving her an amazing orgasm. She even tells him she wants to try again. I mean I would say anything with a man with finger tricks like he had.
Like any normal woman would do she asks her besties for advice. Penny of course is all for her giving her ex another chance. Considering her book is about rekindling with her ex as well. Nicole on the other hand is pretty much against it. She just doesn’t believe in second chances and thinks that people change after years of being apart. So the girls decide to give Tyler a week trial. That way he can’t break her heart and she can see if he is worth bringing back all the feelings she once had before. Who knows maybe he has changed.
Except he hasn’t changed much at least, and the things she notices are for the better actually. They go out to lunch one day, breakfast another and a run for the next. Everything seems to be going well and Delaney is being more open to him and telling him stuff that she never had before. Like why she really didn’t want to become a lawyer and what her dad said when he called her all those years ago.
Delaney visits Tyler at work and surprises him. With a blow job. A mighty good one at that, because during that time Tyler realizes that he loves her. Which I thought was a joke at first, because come on. Of course you would think you’re in love when you’re getting the best pleasure. But he explains it more that the fact that she can give him such pleasure after how much he broke her 8 years ago is what he loves. How she is confident and remembers what he likes and doesn’t. So he tells her he likes her a lot. She replies the same, but is hoping it’s not the sex. Tyler the sweet guy he is informs her it’s not. He would wait months for sex if need be, because it’s not just about that. Hopefully he doesn’t have to wait that long.
After winning an amazing case, Tyler goes out to celebrate with his friend Simon. Which I’m sure you’ve guessed it. ALSO HAS A BOOK. I love it. It’s call The Sexy One and it’s about him and his nanny trying to stay away from each other and be respectable and shit. Let me give you a little spoiler. After a while they definitely can’t keep their hands off each other.
While getting ready for the wig party, Tyler and Delaney are basically dogs in heat waiting for action. The sexual tension is thick, and they keep making it thicker… not just in Tyler’s pants but also by making out every second they get. Looks like Tyler might not have to wait 90 days for sex after all.
During their walk to the party, Delaney finally tells someone about hiring a Private Investigator to look for her asshole dad. He left when she was young, married someone else and only called every so often. The last time she has heard from him was 8 years ago, when she realized she didn’t want to be in law anymore. Tyler is understanding and calms her when she tells him about looking for him now. Which that calm goes into the party as well, when Delaney realizes that maybe breaking up all those years ago was for the best. Maybe if they didn’t break up the wouldn’t be where they are now. Her owning a massage salon and him in entertainment law. When they were dating that was never the type of law he wanted, it just happened one day and he is beyond happy. After admitting that this might be what really was played out in their cards of life, they then tell each other that they love one another again.
Surprise, surprise they have sex. Great earth shattering sex. Where they confess they love each other again, and admit that they don’t want anyone else. It’s perfect. Everything is just perfect. Tyler even cooks her breakfast and it tastes just perfect. See how I am using the word perfect a lot? It’s because what happens next is definitely not perfect… or at least to Delaney. Tyler asks her to marry him, and she is shocked beyond belief. And also not ready. Which I can understand in some aspects, but in my eyes I would of probably said yes. I am one for rushing to be honest. Always have been, when you know you know. As much as I hate the phrase YOLO it’s true. You only live once, and live it the best you can and do what makes you happy. Yes it was soon, but enough to make her freak out and leave his apartment. Nope not something I would have done. Yet I understand why she did it.
Their fight didn’t last long, thankfully. Which let me add is nice. Usually fights are prolonged and can sometimes be dumb in books. By dumb I mean sometimes I wish I could really throw something at these characters to stop them from being idiots and just talk to each other. So anyways, Delaney tells Tyler that she wasn’t leaving him, she was just leaving the apartment for work. That she realized after finally getting the info about finding her dad that she doesn’t want to hold onto the past but to look upon the future.
They make up, and end up getting a cat together. There are 3 epilogues and all are adorable. They move in with each other after a little bit of time. Only because the cat hates not having both of them all the time. Selfish kitty, I tell you. Then after a short time after Delaney actually asks Tyler to propose to her again. That she is ready. She does it in one of her massage rooms, the exact spot where Tyler told her to take a chance on him again and forgive him. So he does want the woman asks and asks her to marry him. She says no… Just kidding of course. And that’s the end. Another great book by Lauren Blakely.
